Marco Grassi

Marco Grassi (Grama) is a painter of Italian origin, born in Milan in 1966 and now lives and works in Lugano, Switzerland. In his works, the ethereal and elusive, delicate and perfect beauty of young women predominates over all the other subjects. Since the beginning of his career, Marco Grassi has developed a very personal style that praises the identity of the female subject in the specific moment in which it is painted. With his intense female portraits, Marco tries to fascinate the viewer, creating a silent dialogue between the subject and the audience. Marco Grassi's pieces are surprising, combining pure decoration and hyper-realistic colour. In his more recent works, Marco has abandoned the element that was once his hallmark of style and technique: the bold brushstrokes that outlined his anatomical forms and contrasted with bold colors, mixed with a palette knife and dripped to flake them and make them thinner. Recent subjects of him show less certainties. Today the background against which they are represented is more decisive and reflects the facial expressions of the subjects and the intense silence, creating a complicity with the observer. Marco Grassi's works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions and international fairs such as Art Basel, SCOPE Basel and Moscow Art Fair. He was selected to be present at the inauguration of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2011. / Marco Grassi (Grama) is a painter of Italian origin, born in 1966 in Milan and now living & working in Lugano, Switzerland.
